If you are already practicing yoga its likely you’re immune system is the better for it, but for those of you yet to take a class or are relatively new to yoga, you may be unfamiliar with the healing benefits it promotes. Not only does it bring you flexibility and strength it also aides calm, allowing the immune system to combact common complaints. A sequence of dynamic postures that work up a sweat permit’s the free flow of energy in both directions of the spine, whilst the stretching and squeezing of the internal organs, massages’ out unwanted toxins. The Power/Shakti class allows you to build heat in your body and eliminates residue by sweating.

This class is designed for those people that are familiar with yoga, or and have a certain level of fitness and health and has a Vinaysa style format. But what do you do if you are already ill and want to bring your body back to strength? Well the best way to go is to take a restorative class. In this class the pace is slower, so that you never build body heat. Instead the focus is on gentle movement and correct alignment, techniques from the Iyenger style of yoga. This gives the body a chance to go deeper into the poses by following the breath and helps to promote healing. For those of you who are new to yoga, start with a beginners/debutants class, or haven’t practiced for a while, then this is where to start or restart. The beginners class goes back to the root of all yoga, Hatha yoga bringing concentration to movement with breath. Careful attention is paid whilst moving from pose to pose, and techniques are given to avoid injuries and to work around problem areas such as old injuries, stiff joints muscle aches and pains. Once you have found your feet, then why not try one of the other classes, but please keep in mind, it takes a lonfg time to get a posture right and only a few seconds to get it wrong and hurt yourself. So our advice is to take it slow and follow the guidance of your breath. If you are constantly out of breath and are finding it difficult, step back and allow yourself the freedom to sit out a pose or two, or perhaps go to a class more suited to your level rather than your desire. After all yoga is about understanding our limits and coming to terms with our bodies. If you keep in mind that yoga is not competitive, neither with others and neither with yourself.

Sarve bhavantu sukinah, may all beings be happy

Firstly and foremost please come to class on time, that means arriving a few moments earlier to get changed and settle in. YogaHum is little yoga centre that prides itself on a sense of community, so take a moment to say hello to your fellow students even if you don’t know them.

Acknowledge other people in the room, eye contact and a smile go along way, even on days that we find it hard to cultivate a sense of openess.

Be aware of your actions, your tone of voice and your body language.

Please try not to eat at least 1-2 hours before class..

Finally please remember to switch off mobile phones.

Thank-you.
